Impaired Driving Is Unsafe And Expensive
Impaired driving is not a charge you want to have against you. First you might kill someone if you are drinking and driving or driving under the influence of alcohol. Depending upon your weight it takes at least one hour per drink for your body to metabolize the alcohol in one drink.
All types of alcohol have the same amount of alcohol as far as waiting the one hour is concerned. If you drink one glass of whisky you have to wait one hour. If you drink one glass of wine you have to wait one hour. If you drink one beer you have to wait one hour. And that means if you drink three drinks you wait three hours not one hour after your third drink.
If you are pulled over for drunk driving count yourself lucky. You could have gotten into an accident instead of being pulled over and stopped. Then you have to take a field sobriety test. You will have your license automatically suspended and you are automatically arrested if you refuse. If your blood alcohol level is over the limit legally you will be booked and put into jail. This is a humiliation you can avoid by not driving after drinking.
You will have to wait in jail a number of hours before you can be released. You will not have your license returned to you. Your license will be sent to the department of motor vehicles.
No matter what the traffic court says or does the department of motor vehicles will suspend your license. You will have to attend a separate hearing with the DMV to get your license back. The traffic court will impose a sentence on you if you are found guilty or if you plead no contest or guilty. The fines are not cheap.
You can expect your auto insurance to go up a lot. You are now a risk for them and they will let you know this by doubling or even tripling your premiums. If you want a lawyer to go with you to the traffic court or the DMV hearing expect to pay at least fifteen hundred dollars for each appearance.
And of course these prices and penalties if you are caught your first time. Get caught again and you will go to jail or prison and perhaps get a permanent suspension of your driver’s license. And if you can ever get auto insurance you will faint when you hear the auto insurance premium you will have to pay if you still have your license.
