Beautiful Gold Coast Nature
It’s funny, in running a surfboard hire company and enjoying the best Australia has to offer the surfing world , I often forget just how diverse and special Australia’s Gold Coast really is. This last weekend though was one of those rare ones when I was reminded what a beautiful life we have up here and just how much we have to offer to the millions of holidaying visitors we are lucky to host each year.
To explain why this feeling came to me so strongly, I should mention that I recently received the news that my wife is pregnant and we will be parents for the first time. While the pregnancy was not entirely planned, we feel blessed with the news and have been trying to get to the best financial shape possible when the baby arrives. Therefore, for the last several months we have been diligently working to pay down credit card debt and buy all the things we’ll need once the baby arrives sometime in September. There’s been a lot of work and we haven’t had the opportunity to get out much.
On the weekend in question, it was a holiday weekend in Queensland, leaving everyone with not just Saturday and Sunday off, but a free Monday as well. Some great friends from Sydney decided to head up and together we made it a night out, just like old times. First it was dinner at Broadbeach in one of the excellent restaurants there. Afterwards, it was on to Surfers Paradise, one of the renowned watering holes that makes nights on the Gold Coast so fun. For a while I had forgotten the good times, but they quickly came rushing back to me.
Understandably, we slept in on Saturday, but then we put our things into the car and took a drive up to the Gold Coast hinterland, which is actually only about one hour away by car. Surrounded by mountains, there is no better place for wine-tasting (of course, for those who aren’t pregnant). There are so many places to kick back and relax, which could not be more perfect, whether you are expecting or not. This taste of serenity left us completely at ease and ready to start a week of work with out heads clear.
Spending a couple of days exploring the Gold Coast’s hinterland is a must if you are planning to visit us. You will really start to get a feel for the diversity Queensland’s Gold Coast has to offer, if you include this on your holiday agenda.
On the Monday, we took a circuitous trip home, stopping for a spot of lunch on the way back, which also gave us the opportunity to enjoy a few hours of fishing. We were casting out into one of the Gold Coast’s estuaries from the banks, near the river mouth and the ocean.
Even though we didn’t have anything to show for our fishing exploits, it was clear what a beautiful fishing spot we had, so close to our home. There were plenty of surf fishermen a little ways off and we could see them trying their luck from the beach. Meanwhile, little boats made their way through the estuaries, winding their way along. Of course, the big fishing boats could be spotted as well, coming back from their big days in search of a quality haul. Could a fisherman ask for anything more than this place?
As we returned home I could not help but smile and be grateful for the life we have here. All of the above are just part of our normal daily lives on the Gold Coast, the natural wonders we have to offer and share with you. All of this, and that is even before we start to sell you on our “special tourist attractions” such as the Gold Coast theme parks. Its little wonder you keep coming back.
If you’re going to come back again, forget about the elegant cocktail bars for a little bit and give yourself the opportunity to soak up some of the world’s most stunning bits of nature. You’ll be happy you did.
