A Modern Alternative To Traditional Dental Braces
Dental braces are a common sight among teenagers and sometimes young adults. They are widely seen as quite unattractive and some of the younger children to have braces sometimes become the victims of playground bullies because of them.
There is a possible solution to the problem of having to endure a hideous looking mouth full of metal while your teeth align, and that solution is called Invisalign which I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of over the course of this article. The Invisalign solution consists of a set of see-through plastic moulds for your teeth that will straighten them in a similar fashion to that of a brace but without the mouth full of metal.
Obviously the first advantage of Invisalign is the look. They are clear moulds that sit over your teeth and are very difficult to see and so you can have your teeth straightened naturally using the Invisalign aligners and the chances are nobody would ever know.
Another advantage is that the Invisalign plastic moulds can be taken out at any time unlike a brace, therefore activities like eating and brushing your teeth are not hindered.
So given all of “Invisalign”s benefits when compared to braces, i.e. their transparency, their ease of replacability, as well as many claims that Invisalign aligners are more comfortable to wear than braces, it is clear to see why they are becoming popular among adults because they do not carry the same embarrassment factor as the traditional metal braces.
The downsides of Invisalign moulds includes one of the advantages. The fact that the aligners are removable is double-edged in that yes, you can remove them making eating and brushing etc. easier during the treatment, but that means the ones teeth are not permanently being aligned unlike with traditional braces and the overall effectiveness of the treatment depends on the patients personal habits and their consistency and dedication to it.
Price is another area where traditional braces have the advantage. The Invisalign aligners are somewhat pricey and will most likely not be available to everyone for some time due to financial constraints.
The material that their aligners are made from can sometimes trigger toxic or allergic sensitivity in some patients, although this is quite rare. There have been minor cases reported in the past of nausea, coughing and a sore throat, however in more serious cases there have been complaints of throat pain and swelling that has then passed through to the wind-passages. However this only occurs very rarely and generally, the aligners work well and result in near perfect teeth, as long as you don’t mind splashing some extra cash for them.
